Payment options
Two easy ways to pay
Virtual tax preparation starts at $200. Your exact price depends on your return and is confirmed on your invoice before any work begins.
Payment options
50% deposit required for all virtual clients
If you are not using a bank product, all virtual tax preparation clients pay 50% of the estimated preparation fee up front to reserve your spot and start preparation. The balance is due after you review, approve and e-sign your return, before we deliver your final copy and e-file.
Option 2 · Pay from your refund
Start with just $50. The rest comes out of your refund.
Expecting a refund? Pay a $50 partial payment up front. It is credited to your preparation fee. The remaining fee is deducted from your federal refund through our bank product (a refund transfer), so there’s nothing more to pay out of pocket.
The bank product is optional and provided through our bank product partner, Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG). A separate bank fee applies and is disclosed before you choose. It is not a loan. Your fees are paid only when the IRS releases your refund, and the IRS controls refund timing. You can always pay your fees directly instead and avoid the bank fee.

Virtual tax preparation FAQ
Do I have to mail my passport to the IRS?
No. As a Certifying Acceptance Agent, we verify your original documents in our office and certify them. You keep your passport.
How do I apply for an ITIN?
You submit Form W-7 with your federal tax return and supporting identity documents. We prepare and review everything, certify your documents, and submit the package.
How much does it cost?
Your ITIN application is prepared at no additional charge when you file your tax return with APEX. You can also file Form W-7 directly with the IRS at no cost.
How long does it take to get an ITIN?
The IRS says to allow 7 weeks, or 9 to 11 weeks during tax season (January 15 to April 30) or if you apply from overseas.
Why do ITIN applications get rejected?
Most often for missing or incorrect documents, a missing tax return, or an expired ITIN that was not renewed. Reviewing everything before submission prevents most of these.
Do I need to renew my ITIN?
If it has not been used on a federal tax return at least once in three consecutive years, it has expired and must be renewed before you file.
Is an ITIN the same as a Social Security number?
No. An ITIN is a tax processing number only. It does not provide Social Security benefits, work authorization or immigration status, and it is used only for federal tax purposes.
Can I get an ITIN without filing a tax return?
Usually Form W-7 must be attached to a federal tax return. The IRS lists limited exceptions, such as certain third-party reporting situations. During your free review we check whether an exception applies to you.
Can you certify my children’s documents?
Yes, for passports and birth certificates. The IRS allows a Certifying Acceptance Agent to authenticate those two documents for dependents. Other dependent documents must be sent to the IRS or taken to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center, and we tell you which applies.
Can I open a bank account with an ITIN?
Many banks and credit unions accept an ITIN to open checking or savings accounts, but each bank sets its own rules. Ask your bank what it requires.
What happens if I file with an expired ITIN?
The IRS will still process the return, but it can delay your refund and disallow certain credits until the ITIN is renewed. Renewing before you file avoids that delay.
Do you help in Spanish?
Yes. Our service is fully bilingual, and this page is also available in Spanish.
Ready to file from home?
Choose a date and time, and we’ll send your secure intake link right away.
